Add your first products
For owners. A product needs a name and a selling price to be sold. Everything else (cost, stock, barcode) can be added now or later.
Add a product
Section titled “Add a product”- Go to Products and select New Product.
- Fill in the form:
- Name, as it should appear on the till and receipts.
- Category, to group it on the till’s category buttons. No category is fine.
- SKU and Barcode, if it has them. Scan the barcode into the field, or type it.
- Buying Price (Cost): what you pay for it, for profit reports.
- Selling Price: see the price and VAT below.
- Unit: pcs unless you sell it by another unit.
- Minimum Stock: when stock falls to this, the product is flagged as running low.
- Current Stock: how many you have right now.
- Select Save Product.
The product appears in the list straight away, with its stock, cost and price, and on the till’s product grid.
The price and VAT
Section titled “The price and VAT”When your business charges VAT, Price Type decides what the number you type means:
- Incl. VAT: the price the customer pays. Enter KES 1,200 and the customer pays KES 1,200.
- + VAT: the price before VAT. Enter KES 1,000 and the customer pays KES 1,160 with 16% VAT; the product list and till show it as KES 1,000 + VAT.
Either way, the till never adds anything at checkout: the price on the receipt is the price the customer pays. With whole-shilling amounts on, a price that comes out with cents is rounded to the nearest shilling when you save.
Tick Tax-exempt for an item with no VAT at all.
Count it, or track each unit
Section titled “Count it, or track each unit”Tracking is set once, when the product is created:
- Quantity (most products): you keep a count, and Current Stock sets where it starts.
- Serial Number: for phones, laptops and anything else you need to tell apart by IMEI or serial number. Instead of a count, enter the serial numbers you have, one per line. At the till, the cashier picks which units are sold.
